CUPPING

CUPPING

Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. Such therapy is used to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

DRY CUPPING

Dry Cupping is a therapy technique that is used alongside other hands on therapies. Cupping draws blood from the intramuscular tissues up to the skin layers which enables healing.

Once the cup is placed with suction (using a suction gun), the tissue is stretched, leaving room for the area to be flooded with fresh blood. As the area is flooded with blood, stagnated, or old, blood is drawn to the surface within the skin layers. This old blood is dark coloured and is what gives you the dark marks that you see in photos of cupping. It can sting initially when the cup is applied and stretches the tissue, but this can be managed by adjusting the suction. After this settles down, the treatment should be painless.

The goal is with regular cupping, that the amount of stagnated blood will be less as the body becomes healthier and can regenerate an area well.

WET CUPPING

Wet cupping therapy involves both suction and controlled medical bleeding to trigger excretion of heavy metals. Heavy metals are toxic (nonessential) metals with no known nutritional value, which can cause substantial harm to the body. Humans frequently encounter toxic metals, mostly from sea food and industrial emissions, which may result in such health effects as neurological, bone, and kidney disorders.

During wet cupping therapy, your practitioner will create a small puncture in the skin with a lancet, then place the cup over it to draw out a small amount of blood. The benefits of wet cupping therapy is associated with precipitation of blood circulation - by removing blood stasis and waste from the body.

Many athletes opt for this option to treat muscle soreness, recover faster, and help with range of motion.
